About the Photography

These Photo-Abstractions photographs represent some of my visual ideas. While working with conventional photographic equipment and materials, I wanted to create a nonrepresentational impression in the images, a feeling that they were not literal interpretations of their subjects as is usually done in photography, but how the subjects might be understood in more elemental terms of form and color.

Although pictures such as these could be made by manipulating original photographs with an image editing computer program or even be produced solely on a computer, I use only optical and chemical methods to create my Photo-Abstractions. They are scanned and printed by a professional photographic laboratory using computer control, but with my strict instructions to the lab to match the optical originals as closely as possible so that no electronic manipulation of the image occurs.

About the Prints

Prints are available in four media to meet any decorating requirement.

Gloss: A high luster paper with a smooth surface which exhibits high sharpness and brilliant color.

Matte: A luster paper with a slightly textured surface exhibiting high sharpness and brilliant color.

Hahnemühle Watercolor Paper: A heavy, coated art paper similar to that used by painters working in watercolors. 100% rag, acid free with a neutral pH, it is produced in accord with the International Standard for archival paper (ISO 9706). It has an off-white color and a smooth finish. Image colors tend to the pastel and the texture of the paper is evident.

Bulldog Matte Canvas: A heavy, woven poly-cotton blend cloth similar to that used by painters working in acrylics or oils. It possesses a gelatin based ink receptor with protection from ultraviolet light and an elastic laminate coating to provide water and abrasion resistance. Image colors tend to the pastel and the underlying fabric texture is apparent.

An unprinted border of 2 inches is added to all Canvas prints for stretching on a frame. For example, if you order a 16x20 inch Canvas print, it will have a 12x16 inch image printed in the center of a 16x20 inch sheet. Pricing is based on sheet size.
